A new report has claimed Cristiano Ronaldo is keen for Manchester United to recruit former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique.

Luis Enrique has laughed off claims Cristiano Ronaldo wants him to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Manchester United manager.

The Red Devils parted ways with Solskjaer on Sunday following a 4-1 defeat at Watford in the Premier League. Michael Carrick takes over from the Norwegian temporarily. The club plan to appoint an interim manager until the end of the season, and later find a permanent coach.

Several big names, including Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers and former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane, are among the favorites to become the permanent manager.

But Sky Sports has claimed Ronaldo wants Enrique to take over at Old Trafford. The 51-year-old boasts an impressive CV following superb spells at Barcelona and currently the Spanish national team.

What did Enrique say?

Speaking to reporters at the Centre Esportiu Laietà in Barcelona on Sunday, Enrique silenced any idea of him replacing Solskjaer.

“Is it April fools day today?” he quipped.

Asked if he would want to join a club as big as Manchester United, Enrique replied: “I’m already in the biggest team in Spain with 5,000 players.”
