Everton have secured the signature of Ben Godfrey, with the center-back putting pen to paper on a five-year deal at Goodison Park.
Injuries to a couple of key defenders had left Everton thin on options for their backline, and the club were in the summer transfer market to bolster their defense.
Chelsea duo Fikayo Tomori and Kurt Zouma were on the club’s wishlist, but both transfers became increasingly unlikely to happen as the transfer window neared its conclusion.
The Toffees then turned their attention to Ben Godfrey and recently announced their success in luring him from Norwich City.
As BBC reports, the club paid an initial fee of €27.5 million (£25m), which could rise up to €33 million (£30m), for the 22-year old center-back.
The €27.5 million figure becomes the biggest amount Norwich has received for any of their players, surpassing the €20 million fees paid by Leicester City for James Maddison in 2018.
“It is an honor to sign for Everton and to be part of a huge club,” Godfrey told the official club website after completing his move. “I am very thankful for the opportunity and I can’t wait to get started.
“The aim for me at Everton is to win trophies and win games. I like to win. I wear my heart on my sleeve.
“I like to bring pace to the game. I like to play out from the back. I can play in a range of positions: left or right as a center-back, I have played full-back and holding midfield.”
Godfrey becomes Carlo Ancelotti’s fifth signing of the summer after Niels Nkounkou, Allan, James Rodriguez, and Abdoulaye Doucoure.
