As the transfer deadline closes in, Everton placed an offer for the Championship club Norwich City of £20 million.

Everton is in a chase to purchase Ben Godfrey from Norwich City. The Toffees previously bid for the defender to the Championship club.

The Blues posted a £20 million deal for the 22-year-old center back. In addition, the bid also includes a possible £6 million in add-ons.

Prior to this, Everton showed interest in Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori. The Nigerian was considering a loan period to play at Goodison Park for the season.

Godfrey’s journey.

Godfrey played with Norwich since 2015. Before that, he made 12 appearances for York City in League Two.

Subsequently, he played for York City’s U-23s. Furthermore, the youngster joined Shrewsbury Town on loan in the 2017-18 season. This concluded the Englishman’s tally for the whole season in League One to 51.

Godfrey shined for Norwich in the 2018-19 season in the Championship. As a result, he scored four goals in 36 matches as the Canaries moved up the ladder to the Premier League.

Although, Norwich lasted in the English League for just one season. They suffered from relegation last season. Though, Godfrey managed to stand out and attract other top clubs.

The 22-year-old appeared 33 times last season and played three games in the Championship this season already.

Godfrey starred for England at the U-21 level and captained the team in this summer’s Euro Cup.

On the other hand, Tomori descended in the hierarchy for Chelsea due to the arrival of Thiago Silva.

He played for 22 games for the Londoners last season. Although, he is off the team since February this year, and did not fall under Frank Lampard’s plans.

That being said, Tomori played three times this season. He appeared for two Carabao Cup fixtures: victory over Barnsley and defeat to Tottenham in a penalty shootout.

Godfrey and Norwich will face Derby County this weekend. Whereas, Tomori’s Chelsea will play against Crystal Palace the very same day.

Everton, meanwhile, will play Brighton on the home turf as they look to continue their winning streak.
