Consecutive defeats leave Chelsea stranded at the 12th spot on the Premier League table.
Everton defeated Chelsea 2-0 in their Premier League game on Sunday. The hosts celebrated their third win in a row to get out of the relegation zone.
What happened?
Chelsea found a decent start to the game but failed to increase the pressure on Everton’s backline as the first half went on. Enzo Fernandez forced a brilliant save out of Jordan Pickford, but that remained the Blues’ only serious chance before the break.
Everton turned things around at the beginning of the second half as they significantly increased the pace of the game. After a missed chance from Dwight McNeil, the Toffees finally broke the deadlock through Abdoulaye Doucoure in the 54th minute.
Robert Sanchez rushed out of Chelsea’s goal to save Dominik Calvert-Lewin’s shot from inside the box, but the rebound found Doucoure, who made it 1-0 with a precise shot into the far corner.
Mauricio Pochettino made a number of changes to his lineup as Chelsea struggled to find their rhythm. However, it was Everton who maintained control over the game and doubled their lead in the 92nd minute. Nathan Patterson’s corner was half-cleared after a poor reaction from Dorde Petrovic. The ball went straight to Lewis Dobbin, who put the icing on the cake for the Toffees with a powerful finish from around 12 yards out.
