During an extended interview, Samuel Eto’o wanted to take his pick between two of the best managers he ever had. Guardiola o Mourinho.

Samuel Eto’o is a privileged man who got to play under some of the best managers in modern football history. In fact, he was coached by both Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola. First he played under the Catalan manager, who famously wanted to drop him from the squad. However, Eto’o still fought to prove Pep wrong, and together they won the treble in 2009. Despite getting so much success during that year, Eto’o still kept a grudge against Guardiola for years.

Exactly one season after that, the Cameroon international decided to accept a trade offer in which he left for Inter as Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s replacement. One would’ve thought he was finished but destiny wanted him to cross paths with Mourinho. In Italian football, Eto’o got to enjoy his second consecutive treble and defeated Guardiola’s Barcelona in the semifinal. To this day, Eto’o still can’t forget about this feat.

Who does Eto’o pick between both managers?

Contrary to previous times when he always chose Mourinho, Samuel Eto’o seems to have forgiven Pep for tossing him aside. “I am more friends with Jose Mourinho’s style,” Eto’o explained in an interview with SPORTbible. “It’s a question of style, they each have their own way, I prefer Jose Mourinho.

“However, Pep is a top top coach, so I don’t think you can make a decision, but I can tell you that there is no other coach, no other manager, who will get to motivate his players as much as Jose Mourinho does, for me the treble with Jose is the special one. Now there are more coaches with their own style. Yet, in terms of motivating and getting the most out of their players, that is Jose Mourinho.”
