The Premier League champions’ newest acquisition opened up on his reasons for heading to the Etihad.
Erling Haaland has described Manchester City as the ‘perfect’ club for him, citing the style of play and the squad’s quality as key reasons behind his move to the Etihad.
The 21-year-old striker has completed his €60 million switch from Borussia Dortmund. He’ll formally join the Citizens when the transfer window reopens on July 1 after penning a five-year contract until 2027.
‘I am in the right place to fulfill my ambitions’
By doing so, Haaland follows in the footsteps of his father Alfie – who played for Man City in the early 2000s – and admits joining a club he has always supported is ‘a proud day for me and my family’.
“I have always watched City and have loved doing so in recent seasons,” Haaland told the club’s website.
“You can’t help but admire their style of play, it’s exciting and they create a lot of chances, which is perfect for a player like me.
“There are so many world-class players in this squad and Pep [Guardiola] is one of the greatest managers of all-time, so I believe I am in the right place to fulfill my ambitions. I want to score goals, win trophies and improve as a footballer and I am confident I can do that here.”
Haaland managed 86 goals and 23 assists in 89 appearances across all competitions for Dortmund between January 2020 and June 2022. He won the DFB-Pokal and Bundesliga Player of the Season in 2020/21.
The Norway international will earn a reported £375,000 a week salary, plus bonuses, as part of his five-year contract at Man City.
