The Norwegian left it to the dying moments of the Man City-Arsenal game to enter the Premier League record books.

Erling Haaland has broken Mohamed Salah’s record for the most goals in a 38-game Premier League season.

In the fifth minute of added time, Haaland scored Manchester City’s fourth goal to wrap up a 4-1 home victory over title rivals Arsenal on Wednesday.

It was the 22-year-old striker’s 33rd goal of the campaign, moving him past Salah’s record tally of 32 goals for Liverpool in the 2017/18 season.

‘Erling scores goals all the time with or without Kevin’

Once again, Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne were at the heart of the action. Haaland set up both of De Bruyne’s goals, before getting on the scoresheet himself. John Stones also found the back of the net for City.

“The game belongs to them,” Citizens manager Pep Guardiola said about Haaland and De Bruyne.

“I didn’t teach them how they find each other in training. Footballers are more natural than you expect. Erling knows when Kevin has the ball. Kevin is a master of the assist with or without Erling. Erling scores goals all the time with or without Kevin. But together, with space behind, they are so dangerous.”

Haaland will now turn his attention to Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole’s record of 34 goals over a 42-game Premier League campaign.
