The Norwegian striker draws inspiration from CR7’s exceptional finishing skills.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s “timing and finishing” have inspired Manchester City star Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian striker hopes to win his first Champions League trophy when City take on Inter on Wednesday. Speaking ahead of the game, Haaland admitted he draws inspiration from one of the competition’s legendary figures.

“For me the best at this (movement in the penalty box) is Cristiano,” Haaland said (via Daily Star).

“Because he takes a movement, and another one, then he goes. I’ve been watching him a little bit in games and so on.

“Also, with him the timing and the finishing, that’s why he’s been scoring so many goals.”

Ronaldo is leading the Champions League’s all-time goalscoring charts with 141 goals. The Portuguese icon has claimed the trophy five times with Real Madrid and Manchester United.

Haaland hopes to follow in Ronaldo’s footsteps after a wonderful debut season at Man City. The former Borussia Dortmund star has registered 52 goals for the Citizens, helping Pep Guardiola’s men win the Premier League and the FA Cup.

Reflecting on City’s chances of completing their historic treble in Istanbul, the 22-year-old added: “We’re going to have a lot of the ball, we’re going to try to create things. I’m going to try to be within the 16 metres and try to tap in a goal. It would be nice.”
