The Dutchman has confirmed who will wear the armband ahead of the club’s friendly against Liverpool in Thailand.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has announced Harry Maguire will remain the club’s captain for the new season.

Maguire has worn the armband permanently since his predecessor, Ashley Young, left Old Trafford in January 2020.

However, considering Maguire’s struggles on the pitch last season, there were suggestions that Ten Hag could appoint either David de Gea or Bruno Fernandes as captain for his debut campaign as manager.

“Harry Maguire is the captain,” the Dutchman said in response to these rumors during a press conference.

“He has and, of course, I have to get to know all the players, but he is the established captain and he has achieved a lot of success.”

Ten Hag also insisted that Cristiano Ronaldo is not for sale despite reports claiming the forward wants to leave the club.

The former Ajax boss is preparing his new side for a friendly against Liverpool in Thailand on Tuesday.
