The Italy captain admires the immense depth of the Three Lions’ squad ahead of Sunday’s showdown at Wembley.
England’s substitutes could have made it to the Euro 2020 finals on their own, says Giorgio Chiellini.
A fair share of credit for England’s impressive run in this Euros can be attributed to the strength of depth within their squad.
Gareth Southgate is blessed with a host of talented players, with the likes of Jack Grealish, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Mason Mount, Phil Foden, and Jude Bellingham among his options from the bench throughout the tournament.
Aided by substantial firepower in the arsenal, the Three Lions are now just one step away from glory after years of disappointment at the international stage.
“Obviously Kane and Sterling are different players than the other strikers England have, with their own qualities, but they are all top players,” Chiellini told reporters ahead of the Euro 2020 final fixture England vs Italy, per Independent.
“It almost makes me laugh because I think England’s bench could probably have made it to the final on their own because they have some extraordinary players.
“We are going to try to limit their characteristics where we can, but thankfully it is not an individual game.
“It is a team game and it is not necessarily important whether Chiellini and Bonucci come up against [Harry] Kane and [Raheem] Sterling – ultimately it is whether Italy can beat England.”
