The Brentford star is ready to begin his international journey after a brilliant start to the new season.

Ivan Toney has vowed not to let his World Cup chance go to waste after receiving his first England call-up.

Gareth Southgate included Toney in his final pre-World Cup squad as the Three Lions prepare for Nations League clashes against Italy and Germany.

The Brentford star joins England’s star-studded attacking line, which features an in-form Harry Kane. However, he is ready to fight for his place in Southgate’s lineup.

“This is my opportunity now,” he stated. “I’ve got to take it with both hands. I’m excited, I’m confident, I’m very hungry.

“I’ve been working for this moment and here it is now, so I’m not going to let it go by me, by any means.”

Jamaica had previously approached Toney, providing him with the chance to switch international allegiances. However, the 26-year-old says the Premier League playoffs of the last season forced him to reject the call.

“I turned them down because at the time I was focusing on the playoffs,” he added. “That was the main thing, and then it kind of fizzled out.

“I felt like my chances were getting bigger and bigger to play for the England squad.”
