The England right-back is racing against time to make his return ahead of the Qatar tournament.

Reece James is reportedly optimistic about his chances of playing for England in the 2022 World Cup.

James suffered a knee injury in Chelsea’s Champions League clash against Milan on October 11.

The initial tests cast serious doubt over the defender’s chances of returning in time for the World Cup. But a new report claims James is ‘confident’ he can play for the Three Lions in the tournament.

According to the Evening Standard, the Chelsea star is showing significant signs of improvement in his recovery process.

James has travelled to Dubai ahead of the World Cup, with the English source claiming he is ahead of schedule in his rehab.

His possible return to the England squad would be a major boost for England’s crisis-ridden backline.

The likes of Kyle Walker and Ben Chilwell might also miss the tournament with injuries while there are serious doubts over Harry Maguire’s form.

The Three Lions kick off their World Cup campaign with a match against Iran on November 21. However, he might include James in his squad, knowing he’ll be available later on in the tournament.

Following their match against Iran, England must face the United States and Wales in their next Group B games.
