An impressive display against the African Champions sends England to the next round of the tournament.
England defeated Senegal 3-0 in their World Cup game on Sunday. The Three Lions bounced back from their poor start to the game to seal their qualification with a dominant display.
England are in the quarter-finals!
The Three Lions started the game by pushing for an early breakthrough. But they came close to conceding the opener through two defensive mistakes.
Saves from Jordan Pickford kept England in the game as they gradually established control over the midfield.
Following a few missed chances, Jordan Henderson broke the deadlock in the 38th minute.
The Three Lions used their momentum to quickly double their lead, scoring their next goal just before the half-time whistle.
Similar to the first goal, Jude Bellingham was central to England’s attacking move. Phil Foden provided an assist for Harry Kane, who scored his first goal in the tournament with a precise shot from inside the box.
Foden then completed his brilliant performance by providing another assist in the 57th minute.
He made a quick run down the left flank before sending a precise low cross for Bukayo Saka. The Arsenal star then nodded the ball home from close range to make it 3-0 for England.
The Three Lions pushed to increase their lead throughout the second period but had no luck in converting their chances.
The victory sends Gareth Southgate’s side to the quarter-finals, where they take on France.
