The Three Lions came back from behind to beat Switzerland at Wembley.

England defeated Switzerland 2-1 in their first friendly match after the World Cup qualifying campaign. The Three Lions were not in their best form but still managed to start the year with an inspiring win.

Gareth Southgate started his preparation campaign ahead of the World Cup with a friendly match against Switzerland. However, the absence of several England internationals left him with limited options for the starting lineup.

The England boss fielded a somewhat unfamiliar lineup, starting the likes of Marc Guehi, Conor Gallagher, and Conor Coady. Switzerland surprised the Three Lions by controlling the game in the first 20 minutes.

Breel Embolo opened the scoring for the guests in the 22nd minute while England struggled to find their feet at Wembley. England immediately started their efforts to get the equalizer and managed to do so in the final minute of the first half.

Luke Shaw smashed home from 20 yards out to make it 1-1 after receiving a precise comeback from Conor Gallagher. England re-started their attacks as soon as the second period started. However, it took them another 33 minutes to finally complete their comeback.

Harry Kane converted a penalty in the 87th minute to win the game for Southgate’s side at Wembley. The Three Lions have a lot of room for improvement ahead of the upcoming World Cup. But a number of Southgate’s new choices for the lineup already showed inspiring performances during the friendly game.

England will now prepare to meet Ivory Coast in their next friendly match on Tuesday.
