A new top candidate has emerged for the vacant Chelsea managerial post.

Luis Enrique and his agent, Ivan De La Pena, have arrived in England for talks with Chelsea.

The Spaniard, who famously led FC Barcelona to a treble in 2014/15, is a free agent after leaving the Spanish national team at the end of last winter’s World Cup in Qatar. He is very keen on replacing Graham Potter as the next Chelsea manager.

According to the Independent, Enrique impressed Chelsea in their initial talks. The 52-year-old sold a ‘clear vision for the team’ with his ‘high-intensity and high-pressing’ style of play. He will now be interviewed in person as the club steps up its search for a new head coach.

Former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann remains a top candidate. The 35-year-old German has already had ‘project’ talks with Chelsea.

Former PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino, Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti, and Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim may also be in contention for the Stamford Bridge job.

There have even been suggestions that ex-Chelsea manager Frank Lampard may return in a caretaker role for the rest of the season.
