Eibar took on Atletico Madrid at Estadio Municipal de Ipurua this Thursday night for La Liga. We have the player ratings.

Eibar and Atletico faced each other this Thursday evening as the Colchoneros attempted to extend their victorious run. In fact, Diego Simeone’s side had the opportunity to increase the point gap between them and Real Madrid and they took full advantage of it.

The match didn’t star well for Atleti as Vrsaljko made a clumsy challenge that led to an awarded penalty for Eibar. Since the club has recently missed three shots from the penalty mark, goalkeeper Dmitrovic surprised everyone as he decided to take the chance himself. The Serbian became the seventh goalkeeper to score in La Liga as he calmly fooled Jan Oblak.

However, Luis Suarez took advantage of a defensive error from Eibar to restore the tie before the first half ended. The Uruguayan easily put the ball past the goalkeeper near the right goalpost.

In the second half, Atletico’s attack gained new energy after Joao Felix was subbed in. The Portuguese forward shook up the game but failed to have a direct major impact. Moreover, the Colchoneros had to wait till the 89th minute to celebrate the victory goal. Luis Suarez played the part of Atleti’s hero as he managed to steal a penalty which he scored himself. With this penalty, Luis Suarez reached his 500th career goal. In fact, the striker became the joint top-scorer of La Liga alongside Lionel Messi.

It was a well-disputed game on both sides, but the Colchoneros managed to secure an arguably well-deserved win. Atletico Madrid now hold a seven-point lead against city rivals Real Madrid with one less match played.
