Mohammed Kudus scored twice as Ghana and Egypt shared the points in a Group B encounter.
Egypt drew 2-2 with Ghana in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match on Thursday. The Black Stars slipped to fourth place on the Group B table after losing their lead twice against Egypt.
What happened?
Ghana started off better as they gradually increased the pressure on Egypt’s backline. The Pharaohs found a few chances toward the end of the first period but it was Ghana who scored the opener just before half-time.
Egypt responded to Kudus’ spectacular low shot with a goal from Omar Marmoush in the 69th minute. However, the Black Stars were quick to restore their lead, making it 2-1 only two minutes later.
Following an assist from Denis Odoi, Kudus completed his brace with another stunning finish from inside the box. Ghana seemed to be in control of the game when Egypt got back into it again in the 74th minute.
This time, Trezeguet capitalized on a defensive error from Ghana to provide an assist for Mostafa Mohamed. The Pharaohs narrowly escaped the defeat as they were held to their second draw in a row at AFCON.
Egypt vs Ghana: Man of the Match
Kudus deserves the Man of the Match title for his incredible display against Egypt. The West Ham star’s two goals nearly decided the game for Ghana, but defensive mistakes eventually cost them the victory.
