Donny van de Beek signed for Everton on deadline day after failing to nail down a regular playing spot at Man United.

Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar has aimed a cheeky dig at his former club following Donny van de Beek’s departure to Everton on deadline day.

Van de Beek signed for United amid much fanfare but failed to break into the starting XI under Ralf Rangnick.

He was constantly linked with a move away from Old Trafford, and finally made the switch to Everton before the winter transfer window shut.

But Van der Sar wasn’t happy with the way his former club treated his fellow countryman, and wrote on Van de Beek’s announcement post: “Better luck with this club in the North West of England Donny!”

The midfielder has signed for The Toffees until the end of the season, and told the club’s website: “Now I can say I am an Everton player, I am really happy and can’t wait to help the team.

“I think it is a great club… there are really good players here and I came because I want to help them go up the table.

“I hope to bring my football qualities, my passing, and, of course, scoring goals. It is a big part of my game to score and give assists and I will try to do that again. And it is not only offensive, you have to defend as a midfielder and I can do that as well.

“I want to improve with Everton. There are always things that can be better and I work hard every day to do that.”

Everton find themselves in a dire situation currently. They are currently just four points above the Premier League relegation zone, and take on fellow strugglers, Newcastle at St James’ Park on Tuesday, February 8.
