Ahead of the upcoming international break, the Netherlands’ manager defended Ronald Koeman’s work with his national team.

Even though he is having a tough time following Ronald Koeman’s work with the Netherlands, Frank De Boer is still in awe of everything his predecessor did. During his time with the Oranje national team, the Barcelona boss conducted himself in flawless fashion. He transformed the Dutch squad into one of the most competitive European national teams in the world. After the 2014 World Cup, the Dutch missed the chance to participate in the 2018 contest. That was the exact cathartic moment they needed in order to regain the trust of the Dutch fan base.

Ronald Koeman was the face of that transition and he did his job perfectly. Those are the massive shoes that Frank De Boer needs to fill, he is ready for the challenge. However, the initial months of the job weren’t as easy as expected after losing against Mexico in a friendly match. Plus, they haven’t been able to win a single match since De Boer took the job.

Frank De Boer’s plan to succeed.

With two games against Italy and one against Bosnia in the bag, Frank De Boer still hasn’t been able to win as the Netherlands’ manager. The next three matches the Dutch will play will determine the road ahead for them in 2021.

A friendly match against Spain should be the one that sets the stage for the two UEFA Nations League games in the upcoming weeks. First, they face Bosnia at home and they have to visit Poland. All three matches will take place in the next two weeks and De Boer’s future is in the balance.

While talking to the Dutch Football Federation’s official channel, he said the following about Koeman and the road ahead.

“Of course I will keep everything done correctly. If I want to change things, I will do so. But now I’m the one who calls the shots. We will play with a 4-3-3 formation despite playing 5-3-2 against Italy. We did that because of the way that squad played.”
