Dusan Vlahovic has revealed why he chose to take on the responsibility of wearing Cristiano Ronaldo’s vacant No 7 jersey at Juventus.

The forward signed for the Serie A giants last month from Fiorentina after being linked with Arsenal for a majority of the winter transfer window.

The Serbian enjoyed a fantastic 2021, equalling Ronaldo’s record for Serie A goals in a calendar year, prompting several European clubs to register an interest in the 22-year-old.

He eventually signed for Juventus, who let Ronaldo leave for Manchester United last summer, and has explained why he chose that iconic shirt number.

Vlahovic said (via the Mirror): “I know the weight of the number 7 shirt, but all Juve shirts weigh heavy. I am here to help my teammates and make myself available: only all together can we achieve our goals.

“What counts is how we get on the pitch, not so much the numbers on the shirts.

“Choosing Juve was easy. In Juve’s DNA there is the desire to win, to never give up and fight until the end, even when there is suffering. This is also my mentality and therefore the choice was easy.

“My goal is to settle into the Coach’s plans as soon as possible, then get to know and create a friendship, I would say a familiar relationship, with all my teammates and all the people who work for Juve. I think this is a key aspect.”

Juventus are currently fifth on the Serie A table, 11 points off leaders Inter.
