The Catalans come into the new season on the back of an extensive squad rebuild.

Xavi Hernandez believes Barcelona can win the Champions League, hoping his side would find a strong start to the tournament.

The Catalans might compete against Bayern Munich, Inter, and Viktoria Plzen in the competition’s ‘Group of Death’.

A disappointing 2021-22 season saw Barca crash out of the group stage. But Xavi insists his side have bigger ‘dreams’ this season.

“The main target now is to get through the group stage. Then we’ll see,” said Xavi.

“Dreaming is free so why can’t we win this competition? But we have to start by taking the three points tomorrow.”

He added: “We are going to compete and dream of winning the Champions League, otherwise I wouldn’t be here.

“I want to win. We have to be very humble. Since 2015 we haven’t won the Champions League and last year we went into the Europa League.

“You have to think that every game is going to be a war. We have had a very difficult group.”

Barcelona must face Viktoria Plzen in their Champions League opener on Wednesday. The Catalans will then prepare to meet Bayern at Allianz Arena next week.
