The Real Madrid loanee is yet to start a single game for Dortmund since joining on a two-year loan deal last summer.
Borussia Dortmund have no plans to release Reinier, says sporting director Michael Zorc in response to rumors the teenager could return to parent club Real Madrid.
The 18-year-old signed up on a two-season loan deal last August shortly after completing a €30m transfer to Real Madrid from Brazilian club Flamengo.
Reinier hoped a move to Germany would give him valuable first-team experience to aid his development. Almost halfway into the 2020/21 campaign, however, he has only made eight appearances across all competitions. Not one of them, in fact, have come as a starter.
Although injuries, along with a positive COVID-19 test in November, have played a part in his struggles.
This disappointing turn of events has led Real Madrid to consider ending Reinier’s time at Dortmund. According to reports from Spain, the club could loan him out again to La Liga rivals Real Valladolid.
“We have a lot of competition in attack,” Zorc told Sport1 in response to rumors Reinier’s loan will be cut short.
“We basically don’t want to give him up. Of course, I’ll listen to everything. If someone is dissatisfied because he has too few opportunities, then you talk to each other, but we will not take the initiative ourselves.”
This isn’t the first time Zorc has had to shut down rumors of Reinier leaving either.
