During an interview with the BBC, Borussia Dortmund’s CEO revealed he already knows where Erling Haaland will play next season.
Erling Haaland’s future is a major concern for Borussia Dortmund right now, but their CEO isn’t even worried about it. In fact, he seemed quite relaxed during his most recent interview with BBC Sport. He took time to come after Pep Guardiola’s spending spree of the last five years at Manchester City. But nobody spoke about the hint he dropped about Erling Haaland’s future and his possible next club. Hans-Joachim Watzke revealed he already knows where the youngster is playing next season.
He also hinted that they will take a massive offer regardless of the club it comes from next summer. It is as simple as this: Dortmund will sell Haaland this summer of a club that offers over €150 million. If this doesn’t happen, they don’t mind waiting one more year and accept €70 million for any club. Watzke described Borussia Dortmund’s situation and explained why they don’t really need to sell any of their players this summer.
Watzke understands Mino Raiola.
This is what Watzke said on BBC Sport: “When Covid-19 struck, we had no debt. Not one euro. Because of that, it is a comfortable situation. We do not have to sell a player. That is important. The rich clubs in the world, they must know when they want a player from Borussia Dortmund there are two possibilities. The first is that I tell them they have no chance. Other times, I will tell them ‘this is the price’. Then they must know this is the price. It is not another price. We are very clear. We are very honest.
“I do get tired of the rumors about Haaland. Last summer, everybody in England, everybody in Europe, every journalist told the public ‘Jadon Sancho will play for Manchester United or wherever’. But he is still playing for Borussia Dortmund. Now everybody writes ‘Erling Haaland will next season play for Real Madrid or for Barcelona, or for this or this’. The only way is to look after 1 September at where he is playing. I think I know where he will be playing but that is all I have to say. Mino is a special guy. He wants to make the best deal for his player. That is his work. I know Mino very well. Mino knows me very well. We have no problems. Everybody knows what the other wants to do.”
