Dortmund celebrate their ninth consecutive victory across all competitions.

Borussia Dortmund defeated RB Leipzig 2-1 in their Bundesliga game on Friday. A crucial home victory sends Edin Terzic’s men to the top of the league table.

Bundesliga title race heats up!

Dortmund started off by putting immense pressure on Leipzig’s backline early on.

The hosts thought they scored the opener when Julian Brandt slotted a low shot into the right corner of the net in the 13th minute. But the referee disallowed the goal for handball in the buildup.

Dortmund, however, didn’t stop attacking as they forced their opponents to stay in their own half. Their efforts paid off when Marco Reus converted a penalty to put them ahead in the 20th minute.

Leipzig pushed for a quick equalizer, but their attacks only provided more space for Dortmund to get behind their backline.

The Black and Yellows doubled their lead when Emre Can received a poorly-defended ball behind the box. The German star smashed the ball into the back of the net with a deflected strike, making it 2-0 for the hosts.

After the break, Dortmund remained in charge for the first 15 minutes of the second period. But Marco Rose’s substitutions gradually changed the course of the game.

David Raum, who replaced Marcel Halstenberg just after the hour-mark, provided an assist for Emil Forsberg in the 74th minute. A quick run and cutback from the German full-back returned Leipzig back into the game.

However, Rose’s men were not able to find the equalizer despite their efforts in the final ten minutes.

The home win sends Dortmund to the top of the Bundesliga table, continuing their perfect record since the competition’s restart after the World Cup.
