Van de Beek has left Manchester United on a second loan spell, hoping to rediscover his spark at the Bundesliga.
Donny van de Beek’s loan stint at Eintracht Frankfurt from Manchester United has hit a stumbling block as the Dutch midfielder endured a challenging debut in his first home game in the Bundesliga.
Starting for Eintracht against Mainz, van de Beek’s performance fell short of expectations, leading to his substitution at halftime. Despite Eintracht clinching a 1-0 victory, van de Beek struggled to assert himself, managing only eight passes and touching the ball a mere 14 times before being replaced.
This setback marks the continuation of a difficult period for van de Beek, who is seeking a resurgence after a lacklustre tenure at Manchester United since his £40 million transfer from Ajax in 2020. His loan to Eintracht follows a previous disappointing spell at Everton.
The Dutchman’s struggles extend beyond his Bundesliga debut, with underwhelming performances in previous appearances against RB Leipzig and Darmstadt, failing to last a full 90 minutes in either match.
Eintracht Frankfurt, who are covering a significant portion of van de Beek’s £125,000-a-week wages, possess the option to secure his services permanently for approximately £12 million in the summer.
