The Portuguese full-back is a key member of Stefano Pioli’s team as they push for the Serie A title and Europa League trophy.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is “pleased with the development” of Diogo Dalot and is “looking forward” to his Manchester United return.

Dalot signed for AC Milan on a season-long loan deal in the summer in search of consistent minutes on the pitch.

Initially, fitness issues and then Aaron Wan-Bissaka making the right-back spot his own prevented the Portuguese from becoming a regular presence in the Man United team.

At Milan, Dalot is getting enough opportunities. He has made 22 appearances, with 17 of those being starts, across all competitions so far this season for the Serie A side.

The 22-year-old is under contract at Old Trafford until 2023, and Solskjaer suggests he has the players in his future plans for the Red Devils.

“The plan was always for Diogo this season, or the main thing for Diogo, was to be fit,” the Norwegian stated at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Europa League clash with AC Milan on Thursday.

“He never managed to be fit for a long spell when he was here and was unfortunate with injuries.

“Now he’s kept fit all season; he’s been available for them. He’s playing at a big club, big expectations and a great history, so it’s been a good year for him.

“So, of course, I’ve been very pleased with his development this season. He’s our player and we’re looking forward to having him back.”
