Diogo Jota has opened up on his recovery from his knee injury and says he is progressing well as he remains on the sidelines.
Diogo Jota says his recovery from his knee injury is going according to plan. However, no date has been set for a return yet.
The Portugal international made an immediate impact at Liverpool following his big move from Wolves.
The Reds coughed out £45m for Jota and have so far been rewarded with a nine-goal return after 17 appearances across all competitions.
There were increasing calls for the 24-year-old to be handed a starting berth ahead of Roberto Firmino in the Liverpool lineup. Sadly, the in-form forward has joined the lengthy injury list at Anfield.
Jota suffered an untimely setback after starring in his side’s 1-1 draw with Wolves.
“We don’t know exactly but one-and-a-half, two months. We don’t know exactly. It’s pretty similar with Kostas Tsimikas, by the way. Unbelievable,” Klopp was quoted to have said on Jota after that match.
It remains to be seen when Jota will get back on the pitch but it’s more than certain he will remain on the sidelines for the rest of the year.
He told Liverpool’s official website: “Now I am supporting from the outside it is not easy – it’s even harder when you need to suffer as a fan and you can do literally nothing to help the team on the field.
“I’m doing my best to be back as soon as possible. Things are going well but knee injuries are always complicated so we cannot rush things, but I am doing well and I will be back on the field as soon as possible like I say.”
