Liverpool star Diogo Jota aims to make a statement in the red kit after overcoming a knee injury.

Jota has been going from strength to strength since swapping Wolverhampton for Liverpool this past summer. Although there were some doubts over his £41million arrival from Molineux, the 24-year-old has been nothing short of outstanding at Anfield this season.

With Jota in the mix, Jurgen Klopp’s men have gained a new dimension in the final third. The pace Portuguese forward has clocked up nine goals in 17 outings across various competitions, putting the squeeze on Roberto Firmino’s place in the starting XI.

Indeed, the out-of-sorts Brazilian has tumbled down Klopp’s pecking order following Jota’s immediate impact. However, after the 24-year-old picked up an injury setback in mid-December, Firmino has rediscovered his mojo and re-established himself as a permanent fixture in Liverpool’s set-up.

Jota is on the verge of returning to full fitness but will face an uphill task of regaining his influence in the squad. Many are piling pressure on Klopp to hand his summer addition a more prominent role once his knee damage is fully healed.

The player himself is looking to fight his way back into the starting line-up, insisting he won’t be rushing his return to the pitch.

“Knee injuries are always complicated, so we cannot rush things, but I am doing well, and I will be back on the field as soon as possible,” Jota told the club’s official website.

“When I’m fit, I know I’ll give my best in each training session to give myself a chance of playing.

“In Portugal they used to say the hardest thing is not to arrive but to stay there. So that, of course, is my target.

“Now that I have achieved a move to Liverpool I want to be a big influence in this club, and that’s what I try to do every day.”
