Atletico Madrid are far from their best form, but Simeone says they must immediately get back to work.
Atletico Madrid suffered their fourth consecutive defeat on Wednesday. Granada defeated the Rojiblancos as Diego Simeone’s men displayed yet another poor performance.
Joao Felix opened the scoring for the La Liga champions in the second minute. However, the hosts got back into the game by scoring the equalizer only 15 minutes later. Having defended against Atletico’s attacks, Granada then won the game with another goal in the second half.
In a post-match interview, Simeone advised his players to: “Clear the mind, to be relaxed and to work.”
This was the Rojiblancos’ first defeat against Granada since 1973. It was also the first time Simeone lost four back-to-back matches as a coach.
Before the game, Simeone spoke about his side’s current form.
“We aren’t finding the victories that we deserve but that’s football,” the Atletico boss said (via Football Espana).
“Sometimes we win without deserving it and now we’re losing games we deserve to win. But we have to clear our minds. Stay calm. Continue to work. Wait for our centre-backs to recover – who we’re really missing.
“Then, with tranquillity, we need to re-arm ourselves. This team has done many good things. With tranquillity and balance we’ll move forward.”
Atletico are currently fifth in La Liga with 29 points from their 18 games. Simeone’s men will return to La Liga action with a game against Rayo Vallecano on January 2.
