The Spain international’s future remains up in the air after seeing out the past two seasons out on loan from Atletico Madrid.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has conceded that Alvaro Morata’s future is out of his hands.

After two seasons out on loan at Juventus, Morata made a triumphant return for Atletico on Monday. The former Real Madrid and Chelsea striker scored a brace to help the club thrash Getafe 3-0 in their LaLiga season opener.

However, despite Simeone hoping to keep him for this season, Morata may still leave Atletico this summer amid links with a move to Manchester United.

“I am not the owner of the club, I am the coach,” Simeone said about Morata’s future in Madrid.

“He is doing very well, working in an extraordinary way, and we hope that Morata will continue with us.

“I think that all footballers have to have the confidence to do important things. He came with humility, a desire to work, without demanding anything, striving to get to this shape. That is what we want to see.”

Antoine Griezmann scored the third and final goal in the 3-0 win over Getafe; while Joao Felix assisted all three goals to show the depth and quality Simeone has in his attacking line.

Atletico will next welcome Villarreal to the Wanda Metropolitano for another LaLiga match this Sunday.
