Amadou Diawara’s agent has acknowledged interest from a number of the Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, in his client.
Diawara left Napoli to join AS Roma only last summer but could be on his way out of the Stadio Olimpico, with several English sides looking to prise him away from the Italian capital.
The 23-year-old defensive midfielder enjoyed a decent maiden season at the Giallorossi, making 31 appearances in all competitions, including 22 in Serie A.
Good with the ball at his feet as he is at winning it back, the Guinea international is a prototype of a modern-day midfielder and is what Mikel Arteta wants for his Arsenal team next season.
The Gunners are said to be weighing up a £27million bid for Diawara amid growing uncertainty surrounding Lucas Torriera’s future at the Emirates.
Despite becoming one of Arteta’s favorite players during the Spaniard’s early tenure, the Uruguayan has since tumbled down the pecking order.
An ankle injury that kept him out of action for almost two months has seen Torreira fall behind Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos.
With a host of Serie A clubs interested in bringing the 24-year-old back to Italy, Arteta has identified Diawara as Torreira’s long-term replacement.
Speaking of the rumors linking his client with a move to London, Diawara’s agent has admitted he is aware of the existing interest.
“He is concentrated on his career,” Daniele Piraino told TMW.
“Diawara is at a top club like Roma, where he is happy, as there is enthusiasm around the new owners.
“However, he is also liked by many clubs in England, including Arsenal.
“Being linked with certain clubs is pleasing for him, as these are prestigious sides. Amadou is concentrated on football and his career.”
