The families of the two stars were reportedly held hostage in a robbery during PSG’s game against Nantes.

Paris Saint-Germain stars Angel Di Maria and Marquinhos were victims of a robbery during Sunday night’s Ligue 1 game against Nantes.

The club’s sporting director Leonardo signaled to Mauricio Pochettino on the sidelines. The PSG manager promptly substituted Di Maria in the 62nd-minute and informed him of the robbery as he entered the dressing room.

The former Real Madrid and Manchester United winger, who only recently signed a new contract, later left the Parc des Princes to be with his family at home.

According to ESPN, Di Maria’s family were present during the burglary and held hostage by the robbers. His PSG teammate Marquinhos was also burgled as intruders targeted his parents’ house and, like Di Maria’s family, held them hostage.

The police have begun an investigation, while PSG seemed shaken by the news and proceeded to lose 2-1 to Nantes.

Speaking in a post-match conference, Pochettino didn’t disclose any details on Di Maria and Marquinhos’ terrible news but admitted the squad’s focus was no longer on the game.

“There are situations outside of football that also explain the second-half,” said the PSG boss.

“It is not an excuse, but it brought about a reduction in energy. At full-time, we spoke about things other than football.”

Incidentally, Di Maria and his family were victims of an attempted raid by burglars during his time at Manchester United in 2015.
