Former Serie A striker Paolo Di Canio has given his own opinion after Inter asked their players to take paycuts.

Former Serie A striker Paolo Di Canio says he would accept to take a pay cut if he was in the situation of the Inter players.

Inter President Steven Zhang met the players today, asking them to give up on two months wages.

According to reports in Italy, the club would save €25m gross if all the players accept to take a pay cut to help Inter financially.

While many have been left with different opinions on the matter, former Serie A and West Ham striker Paolo Di Canio says he would accept such an offer from the club.

“I would surely take a pay cut if the club is struggling, it’s fair to help them,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“Footballers are privileged and earn a lot of money. It would be a pity to take a pay cut in the same season of the Scudetto, but I would have accepted it. Common sense is needed,”

It remains to be seen whether or not the Inter players and coaching staff would accept this. Reports in Italy claim some of the players were dismissive of the idea and another set completely rubbished it.

Perhaps not what Inter players would have hoped for just days after their Serie A win. We’ll have to see how this one plays out in the end.
