Olympique Lyonnais ace Memphis Depay has opened up on a hampered move to Barcelona on deadline day.

Depay emerged as one of Barcelona’s top transfer targets for the summer window immediately after Ronald Koeman took over the reins.

Having entered the final year of his contract at Lyon, the Dutch forward long seemed to be a perfect solution for the Catalans’ attacking problems.

Although the move was expected to go through on the final day of the window, cash-strapped Barca could not manage to allocate £23million to get it done.

Koeman’s hopes of landing his compatriot were hinging on Ousmane Dembele’s faith at Camp Nou. The French starlet was on his way to join Manchester United on deadline day before putting the brakes on the deal.

The 23-year-old’s optic to stay put has triggered a chain of events that has left Depay fuming. He will now see out his contract at the Groupama Stadium.

But, former Manchester United flop is keen to focus on performing for Les Gones again.

“It is going as it should, that’s how I live life,” Depay said per Metro. “I have to focus on Lyon again, be important, and then we’ll see how things go.

“Nobody can see into the future. If I just do my thing, interest will remain. Maybe it will work then. I have to switch that switch now.”

Depay has reignited his career in Ligue 1 following a nightmare stint at Old Trafford.

In four years with the French side, he has racked up 58 goals and 43 assists in 144 appearances across all competitions.
