Memphis Depay refuses to provide guarantees that he will remain with the Ligue 1 outfit until the conclusion of this season.
One of the most prevalent stories during the previous transfer window was FC Barcelona’s keen interest in Memphis Depay.
The Catalan giants had parted ways with Luis Suarez and were in need of a replacement. And Depay, despite not being an out-and-out striker like Suarez, was supposedly on top of Ronald Koeman’s wishlist.
Barca reportedly even agreed to personal terms with the 26-year-old but they couldn’t close the deal due to the lack of funds.
A fresh approach is expected in January with the view of landing him for a very affordable price, with the Dutchman’s contract at Olympique Lyon set to expire at the end of 2020/21.
Quizzed if he would still be at Parc Olympique Lyonnais come the end of the season, Depay responded, via Sport: “You ask me a lot about this. But I’m not going to make promises that I’m not sure I can keep.
“I think Lyon has to take advantage of my presence here now. And I have to take advantage of being here. That’s what I’m trying to do every day. You can ask those around me: I like to train and I try to be positive every day.”
