Where next for Dele Alli? As doubts grow over his Tottenham future, it’s time to check out where he may end up next.

Dele Alli’s future in north London is in doubt after failing to make the squad for Tottenham’s last two fixtures against Lokomotiv Plovdiv in the Europa League and Southampton in the Premier League.

Gareth Bale’s arrival on loan from Real Madrid might hinder the England international’s chances further, with the former fan favorite expected to slot into Jose Mourinho’s attack after the international break in October.

Whether or not this becomes a reality, Alli cannot afford to bide his time. The transfer window shuts on October 5 in England. Therefore, he must resolve his future now or risk an extended spell sidelined until January at the earliest.

But where would he go?

According to the latest Sky Bet odds on Oddschecker, Paris Saint-Germain are the overwhelming favorites to land his signature. Their odds were slashed, in fact, to 1/2 following his no-show at Southampton.

The interesting part, though, isn’t PSG being the odds-on favorites to sign Alli but how the bettors think otherwise. Despite the high probability of a move to France, punters favor Real Madrid instead. The Spanish giants have 66% of bets on signing the Spurs man.

Around about 28% of punters have gone for PSG as Alli’s most likely destination, with Juventus making up the final 6%.

Nobody at the time of writing, however, has betted on Manchester United since the market opened. The Red Devils are not only an English club, but they’re priced as second favorites on Sky Bet odds.

Is there any way back for Alli under Mourinho?

Many fans can still recall Alli’s impressive transition into arguably one of Europe’s most talented young players after joining Tottenham from MK Dons in 2015.

The €6.63m signing developed rapidly under Mauricio Pochettino, hitting double figures in his first three seasons in north London. However, things have gradually gone down since the 2018/19 campaign. It’s now at an all-time low, with Dele struggling to even make the bench.

One may point to Mourinho’s appointment as manager last November as the reason for his downfall. That’s not the case, though. The midfielder had already declined before then, following struggles with injury and his overall form.

There is even a clip in Amazon’s recent documentary ‘All or Nothing: Tottenham’ that shows Mourinho inviting Alli into his office to discuss his decline.

The 57-year-old warned Dele that failing to realize his true potential now may cause him to regret it one day. He later described him as ‘lazy’ during a training session and lamented his lack of motivation to Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

So perhaps Mourinho’s latest snub is a last-ditch attempt to motivate Alli? Or maybe he really has lost patience with him altogether? His admission that he has ‘too many players’ before the Southampton game on Sunday suggests he would be open to a sale.
