West Ham United captain Declan Rice recently broke a personal promise he had made to make a small boy’s day.
After West Ham’s huge upset victory on Sunday, admiration for Declan Rice was widespread. The midfielder had made a promise to Marcus Rashford pre-match, but he chose instead to make one fan in particular’s day by gifting him his shirt after the final whistle.
The 24-year-old gave yet another star performance as West Ham shocked United at London Stadium. Benrahma’s first-half goal proved to be all that was needed for a decisive 1-0 victory. The result moved the Hammers seven points clear of the drop zone.
Afterward, Rice shared a heartfelt moment with a tearful young supporter.
“Don’t show them lot,” he added. “I’ve just told them I’m going to give it to Rashford, but I’ll give them another one. Here you go…”
What a hero you are @_DeclanRice thanks so much. If anyone can help me get this signed please as I didn’t have a pen. ⚒️⚒️ @WestHam pic.twitter.com/kVT2RKZaOj

The boy’s father later posted the footage on social media, with Rice commenting: “Seeing your boy made my night. This is what it’s all about! It would be a pleasure to sign [the shirt] for you.”
