Dean Henderson has said his goodbyes to Sheffield United. It appears the goalkeeper could be heading back to parent club Man United.

It appears Dean Henderson might be on his way back to Old Trafford.

The goalkeeper spent the last two seasons on loan from Manchester United. He joined Sheffield United following loan spells at Stockport County, Grimsby Town and Shrewsbury Town.

After making 46 appearances in the Blades’ promotion campaign in 2018-19, Henderson was once again a star as the club sealed a ninth-place finish in their first season back in the Premier League.

Having impressed as one of the country’s top young goalkeepers, many pushed Solskjaer to sanction a return and see him compete with De Gea.

On the other hand, De Gea has backed himself to remain Manchester United’s no 1. Solskjaer’s recent comments have aligned in that line well. His final decision on that will become clearer next season.

What is currently a certainty is that Dean Henderson will not be playing for Sheffield United next season.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Sheffield United for the last two years,” Henderson posted on Twitter.

“Winning promotion to the Premier League with my brothers and having the season we had this season is something I will never forget.”

“I would like to thank the manager, my team-mates, the backroom staff and of course, the fans, who have been unbelievable towards me. I will look back at the last two years as an important chapter in my career and more than anything, I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to learn and develop with such a class group of lads.”

“I can’t wait for the next chapter! Once again, thank you for everything! Once a blade, always a blade!”

Except for yet another loan deal elsewhere, Henderson is now expected to return to Manchester United ahead of next season.
