Just hours before FIFA’s The Best Award ceremony, Daniele De Rossi explained who he thinks should win the prize on Thursday, December 17.

FIFA’s The Best Award has many opinions such as the one from Daniele De Rossi, who has a clear idea about who should lift the trophy. Out of the three finalists, we have heard the Italian midfielder talking wonders about Leo Messi. As an Argentine football fan who played for Boca Juniors during a brief stint, it’s obvious he loves Messi above everybody else.

However, Daniele was fair when recently asked about the player who should win this year’s award. In an interview with FIFA.com, the Italian midfielder spoke about several topics. He revealed who is the deserved player of the award, who should win the manager of the year award. But De Rossi also revealed which player is his biggest inspiration when he was still a professional.

De Rossi’s choice for The Best.

“Messi is always the best player, but if you look at the past year, then Robert Lewandowski deserves it,” De Rossi told FIFA.com.”He won the Champions League, scored a huge number of goals and he was the best when you look at the way he plays.”

“That’s not an easy one, as the nominees have achieved some great things. Usually, the person who has won the most titles also receives the award, so Bayern Munich’s Hansi Flick is definitely the favorite. He has earned it. Any coach who arrives at a club six months before the end of the season and has to deal with a pandemic that changes everything but then wins everything more than deserves the award.”

“I played with some exceptional players – great champions – but Francesco Totti was the greatest of them all. He had something that others didn’t have. He could find his teammates anywhere on the field, even if they were far away. I’ve never seen anyone else do what he did on a football pitch.”
