While still at Ajax, the Dutch defender sparked a transfer battle, and one of his previous suitors have reportedly rekindled their interest in him.
Matthijs de Ligt says he feels “like a fish in water” at Juventus as he pours cold water onto reports linking him with a move to FC Barcelona.
It has been reported De Ligt is unsettled at Juventus, with the center-back not yet exactly an indispensable figure in the Bianconeri starting XI ever since his €75 million move to the club. As a result, he is said to be regretting choosing the Serie A side instead of La Liga giants Barcelona.
The former Ajax man also supposedly wants to reunite with his former teammate and compatriot Frenkie de Jong, who moved to Camp Nou in the same transfer window that he relocated to Turin.
“I am very happy at Juve. I feel like a fish in water,” he told ESPN.nl to deny the rumors.
“Despite the team performances being not the best this season, I feel good on the pitch and appreciated. Would they let me go? There are plenty of clubs that have money problems, but you should ask the club.
Asked if Barcelona could be the next ideal step for him, De Ligt replied: “I don’t know.
“These [Barcelona rumors] make no sense now. That is not important to me. Nobody has informed me about it.”
