In a recent interview with TV3, Frenkie de Jong opened up about getting the chance to play next to Leo Messi at FC Barcelona since he arrived.
Ever since Frenkie de Jong was a child, Leo Messi has remained active as a footballer and he never imagined his fate. Going up through the AFC Ajax ranks was a unique experience for Frenkie, but he eventually became a Barcelona player. After a rough year adapting to the city and the culture, De Jong can finally say he is fully involved in the club’s dynamic. This season has been an eye-opener for most Barcelona fans who didn’t trust Frenkie.
For the player, the most rewarding experience has been to share the locker room with one of the best players in football history. By the time he is old and has to talk to his grandchildren, Frenkie will be able to tell them he played alongside Leo Messi. Recent rumors about his possible departure had to be addressed in this interview. But De Jong doesn’t seem like he is worried about the situation.
What De Jong think of Leo Messi.
In an interview with TV3, the Dutch midfielder spoke about the Messi situation and how adapted he is to FC Barcelona: “I would like Messi to stay next year with us, but it’s a topic I can’t say anything about. He has to decide what he wants to do with his future,” said De Jong. “It was one of the factors that made me decide to come to Barca. Not the most important one but one of the ones that influenced the decision. He’s been the best player in the world for 15 years.
“When I was 12 he already was that. So to play by his side is fantastic. I don’t know if we can say if it’s my best moment since I came to Barca. The truth is that I’m scoring more goals and when people see you scoring they think it’s all going well. But I have to maintain this in time, to grow this good moment. I feel good and comfortable but I know that I have to show my quality even more and help the team. I have a margin of improvement.”
