Injury to one of their key players put a dent on an otherwise euphoric Sunday afternoon for the Bavarians.

Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has offered an update on Alphonso Davies following his injury in the 5-1 demolition of Bayer Leverkusen.

Davies helped Bayern Munich double their lead against Bayer Leverkusen as he danced through the opposition defense before laying the ball to Robert Lewandowski, who then simply tapped it in.

The left-back couldn’t even last the entire first half as he was replaced in the 40th minute by Josip Stanisic.

“We hope he’s been fortunate,” Nagelsmann said at his post-match press conference.

“He felt a slight pain in his thigh. We’ll have to see if he’ll be OK for Wednesday.”

Nagelsmann added on Bayern’s performance: “It was really impressive in the first half. We could have even scored two or three more goals before we got our opener. We had an incredible number of chances and excellent structure when we had the ball. Leverkusen had very little way through in the first half.

“We were always solid at the back when counter-attacking and definitely had chances to score a sixth, seventh or eighth. That was very, very strong.

“In the second half, it was clear how things would go when you lead 5-0 at the break. Still, we had good control and some chances. But we didn’t get much of a hold on the game and Leverkusen had a lot of possession. In the end, it was still a good performance.”
