Matteo Darmian came off the bench to score the winning goal for Inter in a hard-fought victory against Verona.
Matteo Darmian was the hero of the day as Inter battled hard to a narrow 1-0 win over Verona on Sunday afternoon.
With the game looking set for a draw, the defender came off the bench to score a crucial goal for his side. He already has a habit of scoring important goals as all of his three league goals this season have either been equalizers or went on to be winning goals.
The latest goal for Darmian could well be the most important by the Italian, as Inter edge closer to the title. A 13-point lead at the moment means the Nerazzurri need just two more wins to be crowned Serie A champions.
Speaking after the game, the 31-year-old was delighted to have scored the winning goal for his side.
“We knew it was a difficult game. It’s difficult to face Verona. They are aggressive and play good football. The result was the only thing that mattered. We picked up three points, and the target is now closer,” Darmian told Sky Sport Italia.
“We are feeling well, we train to be ready and live these emotions, we are happy today, the three points were the most important things, today. It’s a crucial win.
“Each of us works hard during the week, the coach always wants us to remain focused. In such a long and challenging season, everyone is important, I feel the trust of the coach and my teammates and everything becomes easier.
“Lautaro and Lukaku are better than me at scoring goals. As long as we win games, everything is fine.”
For their next outing, Inter will travel to take on Crotone next Saturday.
