City maintained their perfect record in the UCL group stage to qualify as Group G winners.

Manchester City defeated Red Star Belgrade 3-2 in their Champions League game on Wednesday. A highly-rotated City squad managed to beat their Serbian opponents in an exciting match.

What happened?

City’s fantastic start to the game led to their first goal of the night in the 19th minute. Micah Hamilton, who was playing his Man City debut, latched onto Matheus Nunes’ assist on the right-hand channel of the box before making it 1-0 with an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.

Red Star managed to create a few chances but City maintained their dominance until the break. The Citizens finally doubled their lead through Oscar Bodd in the 62nd minute. The 20-year-old ran through Red Star’s backline and bypassed three defenders before slotting the ball into the far corner of the net with a precise finish.

Red Star came back into the game when Hwang In-Boem made it 2-1 in the 76th minute. But City put the victory to bed only nine minutes later, with Kalvin Phillips scoring their third goal from the penalty spot. Red Star’s impressive attacks in the final ten minutes led to another late goal when Aleksandar Katai smashed Hwang’s corner into the back of the net with a powerful header. But it was already too late for the hosts to pull off a surprise comeback.

Red Star Belgrade vs Man City: Man of the Match

City’s youngsters made quite an impression against Red Star Belgrade, helping their side claim their sixth UCL victory of the season. However, our pick for the Man of the Match title is Red Star’s Hwang In-Boem. The South Korean star scored and provided an assist for Red Star’s second goal while constantly threatening City’s backline with quick runs and smart positioning.
