The football legend’s death has sent the football world into mourning.

Cristiano Ronaldo has offered a heartfelt tribute to Pele after his death aged 82.

On Thursday, Pele’s family confirmed he passed away after a long battle with cancer.

The Brazil legend’s death has seen a host of prominent football figures express their respect for his legacy. 

Ronaldo published a heartfelt message on social media after the news of Pele’s death broke out.

“My deepest condolences to all of Brazil, and in particular to the family of Mr Edson Arantes do Nascimento,” he wrote on Instagram.

“A mere goodbye to the eternal King Pele will never be enough to express the pain that currently embraces the entire world of football.

“[He was] an inspiration for so many millions, a reference from yesterday, today, forever. The affection he always showed for me was reciprocal in every moment we shared, even from a distance.

“He will never be forgotten, and his memory will live on forever in each of us football lovers. Rest in peace, King Pele.”

Pele leaves behind an unmatched legacy as the only player in history to win three World Cup titles. 

His incredible performances for the Selecao inspired generation after generation of Brazilian stars who shaped the nation’s remarkable football history.
