Find out all the latest details regarding Cristiano Ronaldo’s new lucrative contract at Manchester United.
Cristiano Ronaldo is on the brink of rejoining Manchester United from Juventus. His return should become official before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
United hijacked Manchester City’s attempts to sign Ronaldo in a deal worth an initial €15 million. The club will pay Juventus up to €8 million in bonuses, leaving the total transfer fee at around €23m.
Sir Alex Ferguson, Rio Ferdinand, Bruno Fernandes, and other key members played a part in Ronaldo’s comeback. The Portuguese ace has done his medical, accepted personal terms, and is now waiting for a visa. Once that’s out of the way, he’ll be a Red Devil again for the first time in 12 years.
How much will Ronaldo get paid?
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner will become the highest-paid player in Premier League history despite agreeing to a pay cut.
According to The Telegraph, United will pay Ronaldo more than £560,000 (€652,822.02) a week. His salary could change depending on the many add-ons included in the deal. The contract will last for two years, although an option to extend it for a third season is available.
It’s understood Ronaldo has signed his United contract and has already started the visa application process.
Highest-paid Premier League players
If the latest reports are correct, Ronaldo will comfortably become the highest-paid player in the Premier League. Kevin De Bruyne comes closest to the forward in terms of pay, with a weekly salary of £385,000 at Manchester City.
