Arsenal are crying out loud for a proven playmaking talent, but is Jack Grealish the right man? A club legend explains why that could be the case.
Gilberto Silva believes Grealish ‘could be somebody for the future at Arsenal’ and praised the ‘beautiful football’ that the Aston Villa captain plays.
Interest in Grealish has sped up since his impressive return to the Premier League last season. Manchester United, for quite some time, were favorites to sign him over the summer. But nothing materialized, with Donny van de Beek heading to Old Trafford instead.
The 25-year-old later penned a new long-term contract at Villa and has enjoyed another impressive campaign, providing four goals and five assists in seven league games to help the club enter the top-six.
Grealish’s strong form comes in a time where Arsenal are short of any goals or creativity, with Mesut Ozil spending the bulk of his matchdays doing Twitter commentary after being left out of the club’s squad for this season.
So could a move for Grealish be the right call?
“Grealish, amazing. It seems like he could be a player that Arsenal missed,” ex-Gunners midfielder Gilberto told The Invisible Wall Show.
“With his ability, he was one of the guys in the middle who can play beautiful football. He controls the ball, assists and can score goals.
“He is slightly different from Dennis Bergkamp, but he could be somebody for the future at Arsenal.”
Grealish gave Arsenal a taste of what’s on offer by helping Villa storm to a 3-0 win at the Emirates Stadium before the international break.
