Copa America goal & assists charts: Messi steals the show in Brazil

As the 2021 Copa America tournament enters the semi-final stage, Ace Football gives you the list of top scorers and assist providers.

It’s a one-man show over in Brazil as Lionel Messi steals a march over his rivals in the Copa America.

The 34-year-old has put concerns over his club future to one side. His only concern now is winning Copa America. In only five games so far, he has contributed directly to eight of Argentina’s 10 goals to send La Albiceleste into the semi-finals and top the goal and assist charts as well.

Messi’s closest challenger in the goal charts is Peru striker Gianluca Lapadula. The 31-year-old, who plays for Serie B club Benevento in Italy, sits close behind the six-time Ballon d’Or winner. And with a semi-final against Brazil coming up on Tuesday, he can still make up ground.

The likes of Edinson Cavani (Uruguay), Neymar (Brazil), and Lautaro Martinez also remain within striking distance.

As in the goal charts, Messi is again top regarding the most assists in Copa America. The forward provided two assists in Argentina’s 3-0 win over Ecuador on Saturday to take his tally to four assists.

Former Barcelona teammate Neymar is Messi’s closest challenger on a mere two assists. In fact, the Brazil star is the only other player to register more than a single assist in the tournament so far.
