Italian sleeping giants, Inter Milan have been woken by Antonio Conte and prolific attacker Lautaro Martinez cannot praise the coach enough.
After playing musical chairs with managerial responsibilities, Antonio Conte was announced as Inter Milan manager. The Italian tactician has changed their approach on and off the pitch.
The Nerazzurri’s fortunes have changed and one man who has benefitted from his addition is Lautaro Martinez. The Argentine attacker has been prolific for Inter and credits Conte for his improvement.
In an interview with UEFA.com, Martinez stated that Conte has helped him improve as a player and altered his mentality.
The Bahia Blanca native believes he is not the only one to benefit from the former Chelsea manager’s presence.
“ll always be thankful to him because as soon as he arrived at Inter he called me, when I was on holiday after the Copa América,” Martinez said in the interview to UEFA.com.
“He’s a coach who trusts me and that has helped me to grow. He’s helped me to change my mentality as well – not just me, but the whole group – and this is really important for us at Inter. Hopefully, we can continue on this path.”
Inter Milan came close to upsetting Juventus in the race for Scudetto. In the end, they were a point-off the Old Lady.
Martinez is pleased with their efforts and opined that they have improved as a group.
“As a team, we are maturing. At the start of the season, we gave ourselves objectives. In Serie A, we were close [to winning it], but it was also a tough season for everyone,” Martinez added.
“However, I honestly think we’re satisfied, but perhaps with a sour taste in the mouth for finishing only a point behind Juventus.
“But now we are showing that we’ve grown, that we’re very united as a group. And that’s important for what lies ahead.”
