Antonio Conte says there is great respect between himself and Mourinho, with the Italian manager looking forward to facing a familiar foe.

Antonio Conte had no ill feelings against his colleague Mourinho, who was appointed Roma boss on Tuesday afternoon.

In a piece of news that came out of the blue, the former Tottenham manager will now make a return to Italian football where he already boasts a lot of pedigree.

Roma’s statement announcing Jose Mourinho came during Conte’s interview with Italian tv show Le Iene.

The Inter boss has shared some intense moments with his Portuguese counterpart in the past and was asked to comment on the latest job for a familiar name.

“It’s great news for everybody, I wish him the best, except when he plays against Inter,” Conte said as quoted by Sky Sports Italia.

Asked whether both managers still hold each other in high regard, Conte added: “For sure, there is great respect between us.”

Speaking on the recent title win, Conte continued: “It was a great satisfaction for us and the fans. I celebrated with my family.

“When I join a new team, I become the first supporter and I remain a fan of the clubs that I’ve coached.”

Conte is on contract with Inter until the summer of 2022 and was asked about his future at the club.

He added: “Let’s enjoy this moment, there will be time to talk together, with the President and the directors, to choose the best path for Inter.”
